The Research
Group on Lipidomics GERLI
(Groupe
d'Etude
et de Recherche
en Lipidomique)
is a scientific society with an advisory board,
created in 1978, and one of the thematic groups of the French Society of Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology (Société Française de Biochimie et Biologie
Moléculaire, SFBBM).
The word "Lipidomics" was included in 2002 in our group name, as
a new orientation, referring to a global approach for lipid studies. That
new definition allows our association to federate the various
specificities among the lipidologists community and GERLI members.
The aim of Lipidomics is the characterization of all lipid molecules
involved in biological and pathological processes. Thus, Lipidomics
embraces structure analysis, supramolecular organization, metabolism and
cellular functions. That global objective needs to develop new
technologies, but also to keep the classic savoir-faire in lipid
technology. That is one of the tasks of GERLI.
GERLI was since 30 years a driving force in the scientific community in
organizing annual meetings. It also stimulates
young scientists in awarding thesis prizes each
year. Lipidomics meetings, with a large panel of themes from fundamental
aspects to pathophysiological roles of lipids, have gathered more than 600
people since 2003, allowing the formation of a scientific network in that
field.
At the European level, GERLI is associated to Euro
Fed Lipid, the European federation for science and technology of
lipids.
