From the J.Lipid Research website :

« Dear AE colleagues and membrers of the JLR family,

It is with great sadness that we write to let you know that our colleague Michael Wakelam passed away on Tuesday March 31 following respiratory failure complicating presumed Covid-19 infection. Michael was a brillant lipid biochemist whose work touched many aspects of lipid biology in health and disease, particularly cancer. His research involved understanding the essential physiological functions of lipids, their structural , metabolic and signalling roles. Michael pioneered the use of high-sensitivity liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry in a wide range of cell types, tissues and tumors in preclinical  as well as patient samples. A major goal in his work was to better understand how the distinct lipid species of a cell’s lipidome function during healthy ageing of the whole animal. »
